Where is Burnside Beer made?

Our beer is brewed in Laurencekirk, South Aberdeenshire, Scotland, located between the Cairngorm Mountains and the North Sea. We brew and package all of our beer onsite in our independent brewery.

What kind of beer do you make?

We make a range of beers, including blondes, pale ales, IPAs, red ales and dark beers. We also make an award-winning Alcohol Free IPA, Right to Roam and Alcohol Free Lager, Wayfinder. Along with our core range, we make a variety of seasonals, which will only be available for limited periods. These can include anything from a strawberry red ale made with local strawberries to a Belgian quad aged in ex-whisky, ex-rum barrels from nearby Fettercairn distillery. A full list can be found on our Tasting Notes page.

How do I know what each of your beers is like?

You'll find the colour, aroma, taste and finish information on the front of our bottle labels. We also have a table with these details on our Tasting Notes page.

Where do your ingredients come from?

We buy over 90% of our malted barley from family-run Crafty Maltsters in Fife, where the barley is grown and malted onsite (we use a small proportion of speciality British barley alongside this). About 70-80% of our hops are British, and we've been working with our hop broker to explore new experimental British varieties to increase this.

Does your beer come in bottles, kegs or real-ale casks?

We sell beer in bottles, 5L mini-kegs, kegs and casks.

Why is Burnside beer Vegan friendly, when some other beers are not?

We brew and clarify our beers with only time and temperature, not by using additives that often include animal products. This means that our beer takes longer to be ready, but we think it's worth it for the cleaner flavours we gain from our process!

Do you make any gluten free or non-alcoholic beers?

We now have an alcohol free beer! The first in our range is called Right to Roam and is an IPA at 0.5% ABV. This is brewed in small batches using a special yeast strain to be naturally alcohol free. You can find this on our website shop page, in our brewery shop or at one of the pubs, restaurants or shops that stocks us (we have a handy map here).

We do not currently make any gluten free beer, but we do stock gluten free drinks options made by other local producers in our online and onsite shops.

Where can I buy Burnside Beer?

You can buy our beer on our website shop page, in our brewery shop or at one of the pubs, restaurants or shops that stocks us (we have a handy map here). Our network of stockists is growing, so you may also find our products stocked in shops, pubs and restaurants across the UK.

Can I make special requests for my online orders?

Yes! There is a box at checkout titled beer requests/ notes - please feel free to put in specific or more general requests here. Depending on availability, we may have to make some substitutions for specific requests, but we do our best to make sure you have exactly what you're after. If your order is a gift, you can write in a note here to be included in your order. We also welcome directions for difficult to find houses!

My order is a gift, can I put a note in with it?

Yes! There is a box at checkout titled beer requests/notes. Please write in your note here and we will include it in your order. If you would like your delivery in a non-branded box, please write that in here as well.

Where do you deliver to?

We deliver across the UK via our free local delivery service or by courier. National shipping is free on orders above £50. Full details can be found on our Delivery page.

When will my order be delivered?

Free local deliveries are made on Wednesdays and Fridays. Free Dundee deliveries are made on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month. National shipping takes 2-4 business days and we will send tracking information for this. Special deliveries, such as new releases and Christmas or Father's Day collaborations are made according to the individual product information.

I'm having an event - can I hire a keg or cask from the brewery?

Yes! We rent out kegs (30L and 50L) and casks (20L and 40L) for events. We can also provide you with the equipment to use these. The availability of different beers changes, but get in touch with us here and we can let you know what we have and what prices will be.

Can I come and see the brewery?

Instead of brewery tours, we offer 'Be the Brewer' experience days, when you can come and see the full brewing process. This takes place over a full Saturday in groups of 6-10 people and includes food and drinks on the day. You even get a case of the beer you helped make when it's ready. You can either sign up to a public event or book a private event with us. Find out more here.

I'm interested in stocking your beer in my pub, restaurant or shop - how can I go about doing this?

We are now distributed by Cotswold Fayre, Royal Mile Whiskies,  Dayla and Best of British Beer across the UK. We have also started exporting to a limited number of countries. We are also self distributed locally and can provide trade price lists and samples for licensed premises, whether you're looking for kegs, casks, bottles or gift packs. We also offer branded glassware, point of sale items (including coasters and embossed metal signs) and can install our own branded taps. You can get in touch with us via our website, email at info@burnsidebrewery.co.uk or phone on 01561 377316.
